PIRATE_COMMODIFICATION
Pirate utopianism and piracy in general died with the decline of its golden era around 1720s, but piratism as an anarchical cultural weapon was finally deposed after completion of the process of its commodification in the 20th-21st centuries. The overtly insurgent archetype was restructured into the underground revolutionary in its own symbolism, the nature of which was occasionally revealed in counter-cultural minor literature such as the books of the Beat generation and anarchist authors like Larry Law and Hakim Bey. Our another victim of the hyper-bullet of the hyper-pistol of the post-historical society of the cultural domination of hyperspace still sobbed a couple of times
before finally choking in his simulated romantic refraction(early pirate inspired literature like treasure island, 1950s pulp novels and comics, pirates of the carribean etc etc), which degenerated in the form of internet piracy with its warez scene and later a couple of parties in
Europe, which tried to preserve the remnants of the information web that the latter recreated in the internet space. One of the most important
signifiers of the nomadic spirit is now as pathetic and systemic as any other quasi-revolutionary, gutted and stuffed with organs of the dominant cultural capital.
While it is worth recognizing the real importance of pirate utopianism as a concept that inspired Hakim Bey to create the Temporary Autonomous Zones and William Burroughs to write the Ghost Lemurs of Madagascar, in which the main character is the leader of the pirate commune Libertatia Captain Mission, the tragic death of the pirate symbol should be noted at least as a succinct example of the systematic absorption of any decentralized networks of cultural units by the global structure of social simulation.
The cold-blooded murder of freedom-loving marginality first manifested itself in the reterritorialization of the sea frontier by the machine of expansive territorial banditry. With the commodification of the piratism as the next step, there was a reduction of the war machine integrated into the state to a war machine integrated into its own symbolism - the old nomadic spirit of the corsair became an archaic, repressed part of itself.
